BROWNS AT STEELERS SUNDAY AT NOON

By , December 28, 2017 4:35 PM

When I attended President’s Day in Berea in 2014 I suggested that the Browns start a closed Browns Backers Presidents page on Facebook to enable club presidents to interact and share suggestions for improving their clubs, and they did. I was so frustrated after this last week’s embarassment that I vented on that page. I know that the Browns organization monitors that page because in mid-season I posted my displeasure with a seemingly pointless club attendance survey they had been emailing us every week and the following week the survey stopped.

Even though I would have preferred posting something positive as my last official act as your president, here is what I posted on the Browns Backers Presidents’ Forum page:

” A coworker gave me 3 tickets to the game here in Chicago but due to the nasty weather I gave them to another coworker. End result we watched at home and saw today’s game in all it’s high definition ugliness. As Terry Pluto said it was “utterly embarrassing”. Especially so when your team comes to your city and plays so poorly. The screen shot (below) highlights the extent of our Browns’ futility.

Jimmy Haslam we need a new and better coaching staff and more talent. Let your GM lead the way, period.

On behalf of the Windy City Dawg Pound I wish my fellow presidents a Merry Christmas and a New Year blessed with health, prosperity and a new trajectory for our beloved Browns.”

Elaine and I are performing for a wedding on New Year’s Eve and will not be able to make it to the Fox and Hound but you are all welcome to attend to see if the Christmas miracle we wished for arrives a week late.

We wish you all a healthy, happy and prosperous 2018!

BROWNS AT BEARS SUNDAY AT NOON

By , December 22, 2017 3:30 PM

Another down week for Kizer and we are 0-14. Yes he is making rookie mistakes but at some point even rookies should be learning from their mistakes and correcting them. He leads the league with interceptions at 19 and I don’t even want to know what our takeaway-giveaway numbers are, but they have to be negative. Can anybody remember the last turnover we got?

Well the Browns are not the only ones with new leadership. I am pleased to announce that our Windy City Dawg Pound will have new leadership next season, namely Bill Schmid assisted by Mike Royer. Bill is a charter member going back to the bowling alley days and Mike was not too far behind him. The jury is still out on Dorsey but I am thankful that our Dawg Pound will be in capable and loyal hands.

As Elaine would say about this week’s matchup “the losers are playing the losers”. Elaine and I will not be with you this week but you are all welcome to come out to the Fox and Hound at noon to find out who the losers will be this week. In our eyes you are all winners. We thank you for your support and for keeping the faith in these very trying times.

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you, and……………

RAVENS AT BROWNS SUNDAY AT NOON

By , December 14, 2017 2:41 PM

Another week, another gut wrenching loss, this time in a game we supposedly had a 42% chance of winning. An article I read about our new GM John Dorsey today pointed out that the chance of the Browns losing all 13 games this year was 1%. ONE PERCENT. Dorsey took a broad swipe at Sashi Brown and our current roster by saying “The guys who were here before, that system, they didn’t get real players…” I don’t think that was meant to insult all our players, but to put the ones that aren’t making plays on notice. Perform or you’re gone.

That should also apply to Hue Jackson and his staff but unfortunately both he and Dorsey report to Haslam who seems intent on bringing Hue back next year. While I agree that we need more talent I find it hard to believe that we have 0-13 talent and that the coaching doesn’t need to improve too. If Dorsey decides that Hue isn’t the right guy he should be given the power to fire him, not during next season, but at the end of this season.

Kizer is desperate to win and will do anything to force it as evidenced by his ill-advised interception in OT last week. Join us this Sunday at the Fox and Hound to see if we can get into the win column a week earlier than last year against the Dirty Birds. We will be giving away a “sharp” set of Browns steak knives and a Browns illuminated Christmas ornament. Thanks to our visit to the Space Coast Browns Backers last week Elaine has a new rule, participants in the 50/50 raffle will be entered in the drawing for our giveaways using the same tickets. It’s even eco-friendly!

See you Sunday and GO BROWNS!

PACKERS AT BROWNS SUNDAY AT NOON

By , December 7, 2017 11:14 AM

Wow, this just in, Sashi Brown is out as GM of the Browns. According to Jimmy Haslam Hue Jackson will return in 2018 but that of course is subject to change. While it was clear that Brown and Jackson were not “on the same page” we will eventually see if either one of them were reading the right book.

Unfortunately for us Kizer continued his “good game/bad game” pattern last week with a stinker. He overthrew, underthrew, even forced the ball to Gordon a bit too much. With 3rd and goal at the 15 and the Browns needing two scores he scrambled into a sack fumble instead of just conceding the down and letting us attempt a field goal. Yet another rookie mistake.

Elaine and I will be watching the game with the Space Coast Browns Backers in Melbourne FL this Sunday. Perhaps if we watch from a different location the result will be different?

HINT: We will be moving to that part of Florida next summer and are looking for one or two diehards like us to step up as President/Treasurer and lead the Windy City Dawg Pound next season. As leaders you can do as much or as little as you choose relative to giveaways, raffles or fund raisers, maintaining our Facebook page and website are all that are necessary. Please message me or see us at the Fox and Hound if you are interested and want to know more.

We hope you will gather with your fellow Windy City backers at the Fox and Hound at noon on Sunday and cheer us to victory. The cartoon below shows how badly the Browns are scratching for a win!

LATE 3 PM GAME SUNDAY, BROWNS AT CHARGERS

By , December 1, 2017 2:44 PM

Deshone Kizer had one of his “good” games last Sunday, throwing for around 300 yards without an interception and running for our only touchdown. But because we had to settle for field goals for our first 3 scores and some more questionable play calling and clock management we still don’t have a “W”.

Kizer’s pattern has been up and down, a “good” game, followed by a “bad” game etc. but this week he gets another weapon with the long awaited return of Josh Gordon. The more I have read about Josh’s past the more I realize that him staying clean is against overwhelming odds. I hope and pray that he succeeds for himself as a person, if that happens we will all reap the rewards.

Join us at 3 PM this Sunday to see if the “good” Kizer coupled with the dual threat of Coleman and Gordon can put us over the top. We will be giving away this embossed Browns doormat (no pun intended) and an LED Browns ornament for your tree, followed by our 50/50 raffle. I will be out of uniform this week as I just have to wear my repurposed Colt McCoy jersey once again.

See you Sunday, and GO BROWNS!

JAGUARS AT BROWNS SUNDAY AT NOON

By , November 17, 2017 10:23 AM
In spite of the fact that most people believe Kizer had his best game last week the losses continue to pile up and Hue Jackson’s seat is getting hotter. Who knows what could have happened if not for that terrible QB sneak call just before halftime, or for that matter who was responsible?
Taushaun Gipson, now with the Jags ripped the Browns organization early in the week making it clear that this would not be the week we get our first win, adding that we will go 0-16 and they will “hang 40 points on us”.
Join us this Sunday at noon to see if that “bulletin board material” and getting Corey Coleman back will add up to our first win. We will be giving away this slick Browns 3 piece cheese set, a chef’s apron and hat and of course having our 50/50 raffle.
See you Sunday, and GO BROWNS!

BROWNS AT LIONS SUNDAY AT NOON

By , November 9, 2017 3:55 PM

The joke last week was “Only the Browns can lose during their bye week” referring to our failure to trade for Garopollo or get to the fax machine fast enough to get McCarron. In spite of our quarterback issues I am not sure that we will regret both of those “whiffs”. But we now have reason to believe that the coaching staff and front office are NOT on the same page which historically has been a recipe for disaster.

We are all disgusted with our winless first half especially since most of us circled a few of those games as W’s. No doubt the second half will be tougher. We have now taken a deep breath and gotten most of our wounded back.

Join us this Sunday at the Fox and Hound at noon to see if we can survive in the Lions’ den. Our halftime giveaways will be this slick Browns duffle bag and “ghost logo” blanket, followed by our 50/50 raffle.
